How the calculation works
Your date is converted into its stem-and-branch calendar value. The heavenly stem of the day pillar becomes the Day Master.
What is the difference between a Day Master and a Day Pillar?
The Day Pillar contains a heavenly stem and an earthly branch. The Day Master is its stem: a Jia Zi day, for example, has a Jia Wood Day Master. This tool finds the stem; a complete chart also shows the branch.
Should I choose Solar or Lunar?
Choose the calendar your entered date belongs to. If you already converted it to a Gregorian date, select Solar to avoid converting twice. For a lunar leap-month birthday, use the converted Gregorian date because this quick tool has no leap-month selector.
Does birth time or location change this calculation?
This quick tool uses the calendar date you enter and does not ask for a birth time or place. It has a narrower scope than a complete chart. For births close to midnight or questions about a date boundary, check a chart that includes the birth time and place.
